How sweetly Christ, the morning star,
Shines on our pilgrim way,
To guide us thro’ the night of time
To heav’n’s unclouded day.
To Him we raise our grateful song,
Whose glory from afar
Makes glad our hearts and lights our path,
The bright and Morning Star.
When tossed on life’s wide heaving sea,
Where tempests wildly rave,
His beams bring cheer and banish fear,
And gild the troubled wave.
The beauteous star that shines on us,
Foretells the dawn of day,
Before whose face all evil things
Shall swiftly flee away.
