No. 155

This song does not have a title. I know it as “There is a Wideness in God’s Mercy”.

Verse 1:
There’s a wideness in God’s mercy
Like the wideness of the sea;
There’s a kindness in His justice
Which is more than liberty.

Refrain:
He is calling, “Come to me!”
Lord, I gladly haste to Thee.

Verse 2:
For the love of God is broader
Than the measure of man’s mind;
And the heart of the Eternal
Is most wonderfully kind.

Verse 3:
If our love were but more simple,
We should take Him at His word;
And our lives would be all sunshine,
In the sweetness of our Lord.

No. 154

No title is given for this hymn and, although it is familiar to me, I cannot remember its name.

Verse 1:
Lord, I hear of showers of blessing
Thou art scattering full and free–
Showers, the thirsty land refreshing;
Let some droppings fall on me–

Refrain:
Even me, even me,
Let They blessing fall on me.

Verse 2:
Pass me not, O gracious Father!
Sinful though my heart may be;
Thou might’st leave me, but the rather
Let Thy mercy fall on me–

Verse 3:
Pass me not, O tender Savior!
Let me love and cling to Thee
I am longing for Thy favor;
Whilst Thou’rt calling, oh, call me–

Verse 4:
Pass me not! Thy lost one bringing,
Bind my heart, O Lord, to Thee;
While the streams of life are springing,
Blessing others, oh, bless me.

No. 145 God is Love

Isn’t this the sweetest little preschool song? The book it is from must be rather old; the hymnal I am getting the hymn from was published in 1894 and it borrowed the song from a hymnal so old that “songbook” was a hyphenated word. I will have to see if I can get my hands on it.

Verse 1:
Do you know what the dewdrops say,
As they sparkle at break of day?

Refrain:
It is love, love, love,
Our God is a God of love.
It is love, love, love,
Our God is a God of love.

Verse 2:
Do you know what the sunbeams bright
Are singing from morning till night?

Verse 3:
Do you know what the soft rain tells,
As it tinkles like fairy bells?

Verse 4:
Do you know what the winds proclaim,
As they rustle the golden grain.

From the “Child’s Song-Book”

No. 143 God is Love

In a world that seems to be rapidly changing (and not for the better), God is the same today and forever!

Verse 1:
God is love; His mercy brightens
All the path in which we rove;
Bliss He wakes, and woe He lightens;
God is wisdom, God is love.
Chance and change are busy ever;
Man decays and ages move;
But His mercy waneth never;
God is wisdom, God is love.

Verse 2:
E’en the hour that darkest seemeth
Will His changeless goodness prove;
From the mist His brightness streameth;
God is wisdom, God is love.
He with earthly cares entwineth
Hope and comfort from above;
Everywhere His glory shineth;
God is wisdom, God is love.

NO. 136 Peace with God

Verse 1:
Peace with God, what gift precious;
All earth’s cares and trials cease,
When, like sweetest benediction
Comes this gift of perfect peace.

Refrain:
Peace with God! a peace so perfect,
Earthly cares from troubling cease;
When the heart is stayed upon Him,
Jesus giveth perfect peace.

Verse 2:
Peace with God that floweth ever,
As a river, pure and deep,
Thro’ the sunshine and the shadow,
Thro’ our waking and our sleep.

Verse 3:
Peace with God that passeth knowledge,
On His precious word we rest,
Trusting in His loving kindness,
Lying calmly on His breast.

No. 103: God Shall Wipe All Tears Away

Verse 1:
Is there sadness in your gladness?
Soon shall come the perfect day;
He is leading on to heaven,
God shall wipe all tears away.

Refrain:
God shall wipe all tears away,
God shall wipe all tears away,
He is leading on to heaven,
God shall wipe all tears away.

Verse 2:
Is life full of care and worry?
Let the heart be light and gay,
He is leading on to heaven,
God shall wipe all tears away.

Verse 3:
Casting all your care upon Him,
Peace shall come the heart to stay,
He is leading on to heaven,
God shall wipe all tears away.

No. 94: Wondrous Love

Verse 1:
O wondrous love, the Father’s love,
Surpassing all I see,
It gave me Jesus for my own,
It gave the Christ to me.

Refrain:
Yes, wondrous love, the Father’s love,
The greatest love of all;
It gave me Jesus for my own,
It gave the Christ to me.

Verse 2:
It gave Him to me, as my life,
My light, the truth, the way,
To heal life’s troubles, pain and strife,
To lead to endless day.

Verse 3:
And now while worlds are rolling on,
And time is passing by,
With Jesus ever by my side,
I’ll journey to the sky.

Verse 4:
With happy host of angel band,
With lov’d ones gone above,
I’ll praise Him in the heav’nly home,
I’ll sing His wondrous love.
