No. 167 Oh, Then Follow Jesus

Verse 1:
Will you from the Savior turn away?
There is life within His word;
Just one step may lead you far astray,
Nevermore to find your Lord.

Refrain:
Oh, then follow Jesus, yielding all,
Know no will but His alone;
‘Tis a childlike spirit Jesus loves;
Led by love, we are His own.

Verse 2:
Will you from the Savior turn away,
Worshiping at mammon’s shrine?
Lo, your idols soon shall turn to clay;
How can pleasure then by thine?

Verse 3:
Will you from the Savior turn away?
Near the gate your footsteps press;
Oh, let naught progress now delay,
Soon your soul shall peace possess.

No. 166 Go Forth

(Sing to Tune Above)–otherwise known as “Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus”. I had never heard these lyrics. I like them very much.

Verse 1:
Go forth, go forth to battle!
Tho’ strong the foe may be,
The might God of battles
Is stronger far than he;
Thy faith shall be thine armor,
And love shall keep it bright:
No one can be the victor
Unless he stand and fight.

Verse 2:
Go forth, see now God’s kingdom
Besieged by giants grim;
Smite right and left with vigor,
And show thy love for Him;
Be watchful; never sleepeth
The enemy of souls;
He would rejoice to gather
Thy soul among the spoils.

Verse 3:
Go forth, go forth to battle,
That may be fierce and strong,
But measured by God’s future,
At best ’twill not be long;
Fear not, tho’ Satan’s legions
Loud vaunt with boastful words,
But think with exultation,
“The battle is the Lord’s.”

No. 165 Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus

Verse 1:
Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high your royal banner,
It must not suffer loss;
From vict’ry unto vict’ry,
His army shall He lead,
Till ev’ry foe is vanquished,
And Christ is Lord indeed.

Verse 2:
Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you,
Ye dare not trust your own;
Put on the gospel armor,
Each piece put on with prayer;
Where duty calls, or danger,
Be never wanting there.

Verse 3:
Stand up, stand up for Jesus
The strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle,
The next the victor’s song.
To Him that overcometh,
A crown of life shall be;
He with the King of glory
Shall reign eternally.

No. 163 Beautiful Star of Bethlehem

(For Christmas)

Verse 1:
Beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine
Over the hills of Palestine,
There the Child Jesus slumbereth sweet,
And we would bow and His blessed feet.
Beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine
Over the hills of Palestine,
Beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine
Over the hills of Palestine.

Verse 2:
Beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine
Shedding thy beauteous rays divine,
Light the dark places held in sin’s thrall,
Bringing thy peace and goodwill to all.
Beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine
Shedding thy beauteous rays divine,
Beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine
Shedding thy beauteous rays divine.

Verse 3:
Beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine
Into the hearts that faint and pine,
Show the Child Jesus, humble, but King
Born to compassion and comfort bring.
Beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine
Into the hearts that faint and pine,
Beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine
Into the hearts that faint and pine.

Verse 4:
Beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine
Over this earthly home of mine,
How the dear Jesus, dwelling with me,
Keepeth me pure and from sinning free.
Beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine
Into this earthly home of mine
Beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine
Into this earthly home of mine.

No. 162 The Lord is Risen

At the end of the refrain, sopranos sing the main line, holding the word “lost”, while the altos sing the words in parentheses and the men sing those in brackets.

Verse 1:
The Lord, the Lord is risen!
Exulting angels sing!
He’s left the grave’s dark prison,
And death has lost its sting.

Refrain:
The Lord, the Lord is risen!
Exulting angels sing!
He’s left the grave’s dark prison,
And death has lost its sting.
(And death has lost, has lost its sting.)
[And death, and death has lost its sting.]

Verse 2:
No more shall men in anguish
His bleeding wounds survey,
No more disciples languish,
He comes! the Star of day.

Verse 3:
Bring flowers, sweetest flowers,
His pathway to adorn,
And hail the joyous hours
Of this fair Easter morn.

No. 158 I am Waiting, Dear Jesus, for Thee

Verse 1:
I am waiting for Jesus to welcome me home,
To the place He has gone to prepare,
To the mansion of light and the robe, pure and white,
To the harp and the crown for me there.
Waiting, waiting, I am waiting, dear Jesus for Thee;
Waiting, dear Jesus, yes , waiting for Thee.

Verse 2:
How I long to be roaming the blest fields of light,
With the dear, loving children of light;
And to sing the sweet song as we’re marching along,
Of redemption thro’ Jesus’ might.
Waiting, waiting, I am waiting, dear Jesus for Thee;
Waiting, dear Jesus, yes , waiting for Thee.

Verse 3:
Many loved ones have I in that beautiful land,
They are watching and waiting for me;
And they beckon me o’er to that bright happy shore,
There the beauties of heaven to see.
Ever, longing, all the beauties of heaven to see.
Ever I’m longing, dear Jesus, I’m longing heaven to see.

Verse 4:
Roll along, then, sweet moments, and bear me away
To my beautiful home in the sky,
To the land of the blest, where I sweetly shall rest
In the palace of Jesus on high.
Ever, longing, all the beauties of heaven to see.
Ever I’m longing, dear Jesus, I’m longing heaven to see.

No. 157 Happy in Jesus

(Sing to Tune on Opposite Page)–by which they mean “The Kindest Rule”.

Verse 1:
I am happy, oh, so happy,
Precious Savior, in Thy love;
I could sing from morn to even,
Like the blessed ones above.
I could tell of Thy sweet mercy
Through the bright, bright, sunny day,
And in joy and adoration
Pass the blissful hours away.

Refrain:
I am happy, oh, so happy,
I am happy, oh, so happy,
I am happy, yes, I’m happy,
Precious Savior, in Thy love.

Verse 2:
I am happy, oh, so happy,
For I know that Thou art mine,
And Thy Spirit witness whispers
That I am a child of Thine;
And an heir to life and glory
In the deathless summer land,
Where with saints and shining angels
In my white robes I shall stand.

Verse 3:
I am happy, oh, so happy,
And my heart is light and free
As the bonnie birds above me,
Warbling joyous melody;
I will sing of Thee, my Savior,
Bless Thee with my feeble breath,
Till my eyes are closed to life-light,
and my earth-songs hushed in death.
